Miyagawacho in Passing is a close street study of one of Kyoto’s five hanamachi, made primarily along the district’s narrow central street and surrounding lanes.
Formal appearance meets infrastructure, commerce, weather and interruption. The neighborhood’s public image is repeatedly made and unmade through these brief crossings.
The project considers how a place known through ritual and representation becomes visible as a working street. Tradition appears as lived labor rather than static inheritance.
