This poignant display features nearly 3,000 flags in Alumni Park, lining Pacific Coast Highway and Malibu Canyon Road – one flag for each innocent victim, including a national flag for every foreign country that lost a citizen in the attack. The Waves of Flags display was initiated by students in 2008, and has since become a yearly tradition at Pepperdine.
